And then, everything tired in me
Leaned against everything strong, and I asked:
Where are the merciful?
And the merciful answered:
We are the merciful
And we hear you
We are standing at every pathway ready to heal what needs healing
ready to forgive what needs forgiving.
Compassion is our way of life
Forgiveness is our pastime
We throw it around unconditionally
Like dew on summer grass
like rain on dry, parched earth.
We are those who have been forgiven while still guilty.
And we can never forget
Forgiveness has touched the very center of our lives
And we long to pass it on
And so, we spend our lives forgiving.
Then everything tired in me stood up tall
And hope came back and asked:
Could you forgive even me?
I have been so careless with God's love
I have cared for myself before others
I have . . .
Then someone from the crowd stepped forward
And she touched me with her presence as she spoke:
Is greater than your carelessness.
Go in peace, Your sins are forgiven.
